TMI Climate Solutions celebrates large expansion

Posted: Updated:
GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (06/17/14) - A Mid-Michigan business has just finished a major expansion and had a chance to show off, Tuesday.

TMI Climate Solutions, a subsidiary of MiTek Industries, is helping to diversify the Flint area economy. TMI added a 50,000 square foot wing and celebrated with the traditional ribbon cutting.

"I was a freshman in high school when my dad originally started this company. So for me to see it grow from 12,000 square feet to what it is today, it's very gratifying," said Matt Miller, TMI Climate Solutions president.

TMI makes heating and cooling systems for automotive plants, hospitals and universities.

"And it's installed on top of buildings, on the ground, in buildings, whatever the application," said Jim Huff, TMI CEO.

The air handling systems are fabricated at TMI and are then shipped all over the United States, Canada and even the world.

"A lot of our clients are having them built here in a controlled environment and then shipped to the site," Miller said.

Air handling equipment for the GM Flint Assembly paint shop, which is under construction, is being built at TMI, where 200 people work.

"We've got plans over the years as we grow into that expansion to add 50 jobs over the next few years," Huff said.

"It's always a great day to create jobs and have an expansion, especially a $6.2 million expansion right here in Genesee County," said Tim Herman, Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce CEO.

Herman likes that they're good paying jobs in engineering and manufacturing.

"It's really, really good diversification for our community," Herman said.

"After being here 24 years, it's incredible to me," Huff said.
