Violence in Iraq pushes up gas prices

Posted: Updated:
GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) - (06/19/14) - The violence in Iraq is pushing up gas prices in the U.S.

Usually, prices decline this time of year.

The national average price is $3.67 per gallon.

Our cameras caught prices at $3.89 a gallon in Genesee County. That's the highest for this time of year since 2008.

The violence hasn't actually threatened the main oil-producing regions or reduced exports, but global markets have reacted, sending prices up 5 percent this week.

Analysts say prices will likely pass this year's average high of $3.70 a gallon.
