First court appearance for teen pretending to be cop pushed back

Posted: Updated:
(06/24/14) - A 17-year-old arrested for pretending to be a police officer won't make his first court appearance until mid-July.

He was originally scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, after being arrested Monday, but he was released on bond, and will be allowed to return later to be formally charged by a judge.

Bay City Police say he walked into the Budget Inn Saturday night, dressed like a Michigan State Police trooper, saying he was following up on a report of a fight.

The hotel manager felt something wasn't right and flagged down a real police officer after the teen left.

The 17-year-old was arrested Monday, following a tip to police.
