Midland vandal confesses

Posted: Updated:
(06/24/14) - A 24-year-old man has turned himself in after the vandalism of some artwork in Midland.

Midland Police say the man admitted to the vandalism involving two downtown sculptures, which are part of the "2014 Pondering Downtown Sculpture Series".

They were supposed to be auctioned off at the end of the summer to help pay for next year's project.

In one case, a loon and her babies were stolen from a sculpture called "Loon Magic on Golden Pond". It was positioned near the H Hotel. It's believed it was stolen between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon June 21 and 22.

On the other, a sailboat was swiped from the "Below the Surface" sculpture near Main and McDonald Streets. It's believed that damaged was done on June 17 or 18.

The 24-year-old man has not yet been charged.
