New race to debut at Flint's Pierce Park Golf Course

Posted: Updated:
(06/24/14) - Flint's Pierce Park Golf Course is a little too grassy for golf these days, but the Crim Fitness Foundation is working hard to put it to good use.

The Crim and Mott cross country team are teaming up to host Thursday night's first ever "In Your Face Steeple Chase."

It's a european-style cross country race, filled with hills, some mud and bales of hay to hop over.

Proceeds will help provide scholarships for Mott's cross country team, and will also give a boost to the Crim Fit Youth programs.

The best part, spectators are encouraged to heckle runners as they pass by.

"That'll be their chance to provide some han-ups, which are absolutely useless things to give the runners, like donuts, bacon, pickles, dollar bills, whatever you think will make someone laugh," said Andy Younger, Crim race director.

One, two and three mile races will start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
