Jury finds Flint City Councilman Eric Mays not guilty

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (06/26/14) - Flint City Councilman Eric Mays has been acquitted of driving drunk and marijuana possession. Mays was arrested last November after police found him facing the wrong way on  I-475 trying to change a flat tire.

Police allege he was found outside a car with damaged and missing tires

The jury took about five hours to make their decision and they found him not guilty for three of his four charges.

They say Mays is not guilty on drunken driving, refusing to be finger printed and marijuana charges. They did however find him guilty of being visibly impaired while driving, which is a lesser drunken driving offense.

On one charge - leaving the scene of the accident - the jury could not reach a decision.

Mays is scheduled to be sentenced for that driving while visibly impaired offense 8:30 a.m., July 18.
