Flint Farmers' Market sees record breaking week at new location

FLINT (WJRT) - (06/25/14) - It's been a record breaking week so far for the Flint Farmers market - now settling into its new home downtown.

They're releasing the numbers after the grand opening this past weekend and those involved are still having a hard time believing it.

A record shattering 17,000 people walked through the doors this past Saturday, making it a "grand" opening of epic proportions.

To put that into perspective - the best day the old market saw was 7,500 people, on a barbeque battle weekend.

This past Tuesday broke the weekday record with a crowd of 6,000 people.

Thursday, day three, brought a leisurely start and welcome moment to breathe for vendors who have been selling out by mid-afternoon.

Downtown parking lots, the University of Michigan-Flint and MTA are offering even more space to market patrons. The downtown business community is happy to see the surge of people.

During Saturday’s grand opening, even restaurants nearby tell ABC12 they saw the type of business they typically see during August’s Back to the Bricks event.
