Local man finds Hidden Cash

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (06/27/14) - The race to the Flint hidden cash is over.

ABC 12 was the only station there when Sam Tedford found the hidden cash at Dort Elementary School, Friday morning.

Flint Hidden Cash Tweeted out the latest clue at 9 a.m. that the money was stashed in a book at an elementary school.

The hunt began.

An ABC12 car was on watch at several locations around Flint where hoards of people were looking for the cash.

In an unmarked station vehicle, we had also begun our search, but we got a tip and we headed to the location where the cash was found.

It's only minutes before we watch a silver car pull into the parking lot of Dort Elementary School. A man headed toward a door where sitting below he has spotted a book.

When he realized he found the green envelope, we jumped out of the van and surprise him.

As we are walking across the street, another truck pulled up just seconds too late.

"Man oh man this is great!" Tedford said.

Like dozens of others, Tedford started his search at the old Powers High school.

"Latest Tweet said it's inside a book I look up there and saw the book sitting there," he said.

As he Tweeted out his winning picture, we asked him what he'll do with the money.

"Well my daughter is here for the weekend so I might take her out to dinner," he said.

In a span of 10 minutes, several cars pull up asking if the money had been found. They were too late.

"I started doing a little research on it. Googled ABC12 and found out I had to have a Twitter account. I had one. Jumped on there got all the clues. Started looking. So I'm here today and I'm happy. Ya'll made me smile," Tedford said.

(9/14/14) - Roughly 400-500 community members made their way out for the Second Annual "Stop the Violence" event in Flint Sunday. Beginning with a parade that started at East Pierson Road and culminating at Berston Field House, rally-goers were met with a slew of vendors, activities and food that was put on by the Community Take-Back Organization. And with violent crime down in the city this year, the new theme attached to the event this time around was a "Celebration of Life".
