Flint Community Schools looks for ways to get out of the red

Posted: Updated:
(06/27/14) - Flint Community Schools' expanding budget deficit has left some people wondering what can be done to prevent a state takeover.

Meanwhile, some parents are thinking about moving their kids elsewhere.

The district was already facing a $10 million budget deficit.

That number has more than doubled and parents aren't sure what to do next.

Parents learned at Thursday night's school board meeting that the school district is now $20 million in the red instead of $10 million.

School board member David Davenport says that doesn't include the $8.6 million that's owed to the Genesee County Intermediate School District.
