Police, kids team up to "Stop the Silence"

FLINT (WJRT) - (06/28/14) - It was a day full of fun on the Flat Lot in downtown Flint.

Cops and kids joined together on a mission to "Stop The Silence", for the second year.

There was dancing - and lots of basketball.

The three-on-three tournament is part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the area.

Police teamed up to show a different side of law enforcement.

The kids who participated signed a pledge to speak up, or call 911, if they see a crime.

"It's OK to come to an officer and speak up, don't be afraid and get rid of the myth of snitching," said Officer Jesse Carpenter, of the Flint Police Department.

"I think it's good to keep the crime rate down. It's good with keeping the kids involved with activities," said Goliath Mitchell, of Flint.

Our own Candace Burns, a former college basketball player, even made a few shots.
