Posted: Updated:
(06/30/14) - The Bay County Jail was put on lockdown after three people were rushed to the hospital early Monday, with symptoms that could be related to meningitis.

Now, the jail and health department are waiting on test results to confirm if those people were in fact infected with meningitis.

Bay County health officials have ruled out bacterial meningitis. They suspect viral meningitis, although it has not been confirmed.

Three people were taken to the hospital - two inmates one corrections officer. Sheriff Miller says the corrections officer may be released on Monday.

One inmate was walking around and talking.

The jail is no longer on lockdown, but the cellblock where the inmate was housed is still on lockdown.

Jail officials are keeping their eyes out for anyone else getting sick

The decision to allow visitors during the next visiting hours on Wednesday will be made closer to the day.
