Bay County, sheriff face new round of lawsuits

Posted: Updated:
BAY COUNTY (WJRT) -  (07/01/14) - Bay County Sheriff John Miller and the county are facing a new round of lawsuits.

Federal documents show one of the cases has been filed with the court.

That lawsuit is asking for $75,000 in damages for Fred Walraven - a former jail employee. A second suit seeks a similar amount, for Matthew Gillis - another former jail employee.

We have not been able to reach their attorney for comment, but we are told the suits are tied to their termination from the county.

The county's legal counsel has seen the lawsuits and tells ABC12 the "allegations don't add up to their own investigations into the matters".

This suit comes less than two months after another lawsuit was settled between the county and a former deputy. The plaintiff in that case was awarded nearly a half million dollars.
