Saginaw County Animal Control actively searching for pack of wild dogs

Posted: Updated:
(07/01/14) - A pack of wild dogs is on the loose in Saginaw and the county's animal control is working night and day to try to find them.

The dogs have been spotted on the city's west side near Salt and Stanley, by an abandoned dairy.

They were even spotted near the former Germania Country Club.

"We've had a few residents call and complain that they've been chased and there's been a pack of dogs in their yards bothering them," said Elaine Thompson, interim director at Saginaw County Animal Control.

Neighbors tell animal control the pack contains anywhere from three to nine dogs.

That's why Thompson and her team is putting out large traps.

"We're hoping that they're hungry enough that they'll just take our food that we put out," she said.

Robert Zastrow has seen them.

"My wife is scared, she won't even come outside," he said.

He'll sit outside - but only with some protection.

"Got the gate, I'm sitting up here you know. I'm disabled. My nephew lives on the corner, we're disabled. We told them we've got to have something done, we can't defend ourselves," Zastrow said.

"Family up on the corner here has quite a few kids," Thompson said.

In fact, there are lots of kids in this neighborhood, and Thompson says parents may want to keep them inside until the dogs are caught.

"If they're taking down deer, they can take down a human person. You know, I mean little kid to them, they could just grab onto it and run away. I mean, it's a very scary situation," Zastrow said.

While no people have been hurt by the dogs, Animal Control does have one report of a family's dog that was attacked and killed.

If you see them, go inside and call 911.
