West Nile virus found in Saginaw County

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) - (07/02/14) - The West Nile virus has been found in Saginaw County.

The Mosquito Abatement Commission says it has found evidence of the virus in a mosquito sample in Tittabawassee Township.

West Nile is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has fed on an infected bird.

The Commission is now urging the community to call them at 989-755-5751 if you see a crow or blue jay that's been dead for less than 24 hours, so the bird can be tested.

This is the twelfth year in a row the virus has been found in Saginaw County.
