FLINT (WJRT) - (07/03/14) - Water has been flowing in a heavy stream down North Street in Flint, causing some homes to lose their water.

Neighbors living nearby say the water pipes broke Tuesday and water has been flowing ever since.

Many homes have reduced water pressure, and some have none at all.

We caught up with Johnny Muhammad filling up jugs with water.

"I'm a single dad, single parent raising three kids, can't go in there and flush the toilet, house got to smell like feces," Muhammad said.

Muhammad and his neighbors say there were signs this was going to happen.

"This has been like this for a while. Since the winter, there have been small leaks," Muhammad said.

"Someone from the city came out and put a barrier here. Why they didn't come out and try to fix this prior to it breaking loose, I'm not sure," Joseph Levels said.

Now they have to stand by helplessly and literally watch their dollars go right down the drain.

"They raise the rates and say there is a cost associated with having our own water," Levels said.

The holiday weekend will likely delay the pipe repair and it will certainly put a damper on the Muhammad's Fourth of July.

"It changes mine a whole lot because I had planned to barbeque and celebrate the holiday with my children," Muhammad said.

We did try to reach out to the Flint Water Department several times. They told us there are crew working Thursday, but were unable to give any information about the water main break on North Street.
