(07/04/14) - Many people are participating in all sorts of Fourth of July festivities with their families.
They're not traveling far away from their homes to enjoy a nice holiday weekend.
Outdoor Adventures in Genesee County has been a very popular hang out spot for many people to come this week with their families.

ABC12 News caught up with people who were enjoying a nice swim, cooking and even biking.

"Well I'm going a little light today, I'm only doing hot dogs and sausages because we're having a fish fry tomorrow," said Samella Kemp.

Staying close to home for the holiday is never out of the question for the Mercer family, who's enjoying a nice stay-cation about five miles away from home.
They say the unpredictable gas prices leaves them with no other choice.

"Especially with gas prices being up, this is really handy and close to home so you're not spending a ton of money filling the truck up, which leaves us lots of money to do other things," said Mike Mercer.

Some people traveled from as far as California, but most are from the state of Michigan.
The resort manager says this week has been pretty steady at the park.
"It's pretty much average this time of year for us. We haven't been down any usage at all and it doesn't seem like we've increased at all," said Mark Norton.

Most families we spoke with plan to stay anywhere from one to two weeks.
Samuel Bowman, who traveled from Saginaw, has been coming there for the past five years.

"It gives us a chance to get away from Saginaw, get away from the job and just have fun and bring the kids out so they can have fun and I can relax from work," he said.

Another attraction is the fireworks show Sunday night. Thousands of people are expected to come out to the site.
The show is expected to start at 10 p.m.
