Neighbors say hole in vacant Flint lot is dangerous

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) -  (07/08/14) - After burning to the ground, all that's left of a Flint home is a hole where the basement used to be.

Neighbors say it's becoming dangerous.

The hole is in the 1200 block of Barney, in Flint. People who live nearby are watching the vacant property turn into a trash heap.

The house that once stood on Barney Avenue in Flint burned to the ground. All that's left is a pit - and neighbors say it's full of problems.

"It's full of water, mosquitoes, they've thrown dead animals in the grass," said Joe Younce, who owns property nearby.

Neighbors tried to mow the grass, but it was so tall it broke the mower.

"They say the neighborhoods have been doing it themselves. It's beyond our ability to do it it. Requires dump trucks and heavy equipment," Younce said.

The house next door is abandoned, too. Neighbors have seen squatters come in and out of the property. They want the hole filled before someone gets hurt.

We did some research on the property.

Blue Tag Properties LLC owns the lot. Their property taxes are delinquent for 2013.

The county treasurer says at this rate, it'll be a few years before it becomes the county's property.

We went to the address listed under Blue Tag Properties to get some answers, but no one was there.
