Flooding in Flint Township strands residents

FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (07/08/14) - Heavy rains came down across Mid-Michigan, Tuesday, and they are causing all kinds of problems for people living in Flint Township.

The West Haven Mobile Home Park on Torrey Road has only one entrance - and it is flooded, stranding people in their homes.

The manager of the mobile home park says all they can do is wait out the flood.

A deep pool of water close to 300 feet separates Cindy Hubbard from getting out of the only exit from her home in the mobile home park.

It was so bad, when our crew came to talk to Hubbard, we had to do the interview over the phone because we couldn't get through.

"This has been going on now for approximately 30 years. We have been fighting with the road commission, the drain commission and they keep blaming it on the other person," she said.

Some cars try to brave the flood, but most are simply stuck.

One of Hubbard's neighbors, Jerry Teague, had to call in to work on Tuesday because he couldn't get out.

"I'm not going to try and go through that water because don't want to ruin my car," Teague said.

He has been dealing with this kind of flooding on and off for 20 years.

"It gets really frustrating because they never come out here and clean these ditches and that's the main problem," Teague said.

There is one option in case of an emergency - to go across train tracks filled with train cars - but first responders might not be able to get to the emergency in time because it can take an hour to clear the tracks.
