M-DOT unveils plans for sound wall along I-75

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (07/08/14) - People living along I-75 in Saginaw County got their first look Tuesday night at a proposal to cut down on highway noise.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is considering putting up a sound wall between Dixie Highway and Hess Road along I-75.

The project would also widen the road, replace three bridges and make drainage and other road improvements.

"The sound wall itself was decided on based on studies that we did for environmental clearance and once we determined that it does qualifies in a certain area, not the entire area for a sound wall, the effective area, the effected residents get to come in and vote if they choose to have a sound wall," said Jack Hofweber with MDOT.

If it's decided to go-ahead with the sound wall, people will be able to decide between three styles.

Construction could start in late 2015.
