KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A project highlighting the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail and Kalamazoo River is taking shape on a former blighted property in Kalamazoo Township.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports ( http://bit.ly/1qrDVru ) that Riverview Launch is being built on six acres. It will feature a restored historic barn for use by bicyclists, runners and walkers, meeting space and renovation of a greenhouse for youngsters to learn about urban agriculture.
Fundraising for the Kalamazoo County Land Bank Authority project is about 55 percent of the way to its $1.9-million goal. Volunteers have helped build it.
Future plans include a kayak and canoe launch, community gardens, and interactive public art made of natural materials.
The launch is on the former home of Riverside Greenhouses. It closed in 2011.
