Police guard house wrecked in hunt for fugitive

Posted: Updated:

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - State police are guarding a wrecked house in Flint where authorities used heavy equipment to tear off the roof and found the body believed to be that of a murder suspect who wounded an officer trying to arrest him.

A daylong standoff ended Wednesday night when authorities brought in heavy equipment to penetrate the house.

Police say they found the body believed to be that of 22-year-old Daron R. Gaylor Jr. on an upper floor. They didn't release a cause of death Thursday or confirm his identity.

Police were seeking Gaylor on first-degree murder and attempted murder charges in one case and for questioning about a shooting in which his cousin died and an 8-year-old boy was wounded.

State police Lt. Brian Cole says the officer's wounds aren't life threatening.
