Port Huron to Mackinac sailboat race set to begin

Posted: Updated:

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - The 90th annual Port Huron to Mackinac Island sailboat race is ready to kick off.

Michigan-based Bell's Brewery Inc. sponsors the race, which starts Saturday just north of the Blue Water Bridge.

The boats are expected to cross the finish line on Sunday or Monday.

Boaters take the Cove Island or Shore courses on Lake Huron to the island.

Winners are determined based on a handicapping system weighting each boat's ability.

The Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit organizes the event.
