FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (07/12/14) - The fighting is intensifying in the Middle East as the Israel military ordered Palestinians to leave the northern Gaza Strip "for their own safety" on Saturday.

ABC12 spoke with Mid-Michigan residents who have family and friends in the Middle East who say they try to focus on the positives their culture brings them.

"We turn on the news, we have family in Syria, family in Lebanon and of course being a multi-cultural church here, we have families in multiple areas of the Middle East. You know all we can do is really pray for their safety their well being, pray for peace. But here we just want to kind of emphasize the positives of our culture. That it's not all that you see on TV. We just want to bring the good out."

The "Our Lady of Lebanon Middle East Festival" is this weekend in Flint Township. It runs through 6 p.m. Sunday. The festival is at Our Lady of Lebanon Church at 4133 Calkins Road.
