Memorial set up at scene of deadly weekend shooting

FLINT (WJRT) -  (07/21/14) - A violent weekend in Flint includes four separate shootings, two of them were deadly.

The shootings started early Saturday morning, and the last happened early Sunday night.

One that turned deadly happened near Dupont and Philadelphia on the city's north side.

We went to the scene on Monday. A memorial has been set up there for 25-year-old Deontia Hall. Relatives tell us he is the victim.

People living nearby are fed up with these senseless murders.

Looks liked somebody is laying over there on the street and I said I hope that's not my child," said Wynoka Hall, Deontia's mother. "Surely it was my child."

Wynoka Hall saw her son Deontia laying in Dupont street, clinging to life.

"I just held myself over him and said, 'Don't take my baby, don't let my baby leave me,'" she said.

Deontia died a short time later.

His mother says he was going to get some chips and a pop at the gas station. Instead, violence broke out.

"He didn't bother nobody, he was very friendly and laughed all the time," she said.

The memorial was set up where the shooting happened, right on Sammy Robinson's front lawn. He's seen too many similar crimes in his neighborhood.

"It's been going on for quite a while now, so it's something you get used to," he said.

Robinson thinks the young people involved in street violence have too much idle time.

"They need to start curfueing more and enforce that and mentoring programs, they need to start," he said.

It's another blow for this neighborhood, while residents hope for better times.

There is still no information being released on any suspects in this murder. If you have information on any of the weekend shootings, police are asking you to call 1-800-Crime Stoppers.
