Flint woman stranded at her home after flooding

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (08/13/14) - A Flint woman has been stranded at her home since Monday after flooding blocked her only way out.

Bessie Richardson lives alone at a home on West Boulevard on Flint's east side. There is only one other home on the road.

When she tried to leave with her sister after the rain fell Monday, she couldn't because the water over the only way out to the main road was waist deep.

They tried walking through to the other side, but couldn't make it and turned back.

Since then, the water has gone down significantly, but Richardson tells us this kind of flooding has been happening under the train viadock since 2011.

"If I have an emergency, now we don't have no way out. If we have a fire back here, there's no way out and we just burn up," she said.

Richardson says she's complained to the city several times, but she says no one has been out to fix the problem.
