FLINT (WJRT) -
(08/19/14) - United Way of Genesee County kicked off their 2014 campaign at the Flint Farmers' Market, giving everyone a Taste of the Market, along with what they do for the community.
The number one charity in the world, according to Forbes magazine, supports 41 local programs and serves more than 50,000 individuals annually.
For each dollar given to the United Way Campaign, two additional dollars are invested in our community.
Investment decisions are made by local volunteers in four core areas: education, health, finical stability and basic needs.
"Last year, we set a goal of helping 40,000 people. This year we've upped that by about 10,000 and we've raised our goal a bit in terms of we are going to raise a little bit more money and make a little more difference in peoples' lives. We're really optimistic about the campaign this year," said Jamie Gaskin, of the United Way.
