FLINT (WJRT) - (08/22/14) - A major donation from Ford Motor Company will help robotics teams in Mid-Michigan.

Friday morning, Ford presented a check for $50,000 at the FIRST Robotics Community Center at Kettering University.

The money will go toward purchasing state of the art equipment for the machine shop at the Robotics Center. The machine shop is where high school students competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition will have access.

Ford's generosity didn't stop there. The company also gave them a brand new Ford F2-50, along with a brand new Ford Focus electric car.

One of the top executives at Ford was on hand to speak to these future engineers.

"We are always supportive of encouraging to really be interested in the engineering, science, tech, mathematics. There is a strong need for engineering discipline in the county, even at Ford," said Raj Nair, Ford Motor Co. Group V.P. Global Product Development.

The FIRST Community Center at Kettering University isn't open quite yet. It's scheduled to be open some time next month.
