TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A 76-year-old Michigan man has moved his great-great-grandmother's 156-year-old marble headstone from an Ontario cemetery to northwestern Michigan.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1qvPfT6 ) Tim Carroll of Mapleton recently completely a four-year effort to bring Dorothy Carroll's 500-pound headstone to her husband, Peter Carroll's final resting place.
Tim Carroll says he was concerned that construction and fluctuating weather would destroy the headstone within the next several years.
After carefully documenting Dorothy Carroll's lineage and making necessary arrangements, Tim Carroll drove a pickup truck across the Canadian border to Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.
A brief memorial service was held at the gravesite Monday afternoon.
