HOLLY, Mich. (WJRT) - A Linden man will spend a year on probation after he wiped his nose on a Dollar Tree store clerk’s shirt after being told he needed to wear a face mask inside.

Rex Gomoll, 68, was sentenced to probation after spending three days in jail. He’s also required to participate in “life adjustment” counseling and comply with all local and state mask-wearing policies.

Gomoll went to the Dollar Tree on North Saginaw Street in Holly in early May. He was not wearing a mask or face covering required by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and store policy.

When an employee asked Gomoll to put on a mask, police say he walked over to her and said, "Here, I will use this as a mask" before wiping his face on her shirt. He allegedly acted loud and disruptive after that before leaving the store.

Surveillance cameras in the store captured video of the incident.

Gomoll was charged with a misdemeanor count of assault and battery.
