IMLAY CITY, Mich. (WJRT) - Police are investigating why a 24-year-old was standing in a lane of M-53 early Friday when he was hit and killed.

Police say a 36-year-old man from Sterling Heights was driving north on M-53 near Borland Road in Imlay City around 4 a.m. when he spotted the man from Attica in his lane not moving, according to police.

The driver tried to stop, but he hit the 24-year-old man. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say the driver wasn’t speeding or intoxicated and didn’t make any hazardous actions.

Imlay City police officers knew the 24-year-old Attica man well from previous interactions, according to investigators. They believe drug or alcohol use with the Attica man may have been a factor in the crash.
