Bay City police catch armed robbery suspect on New Year’s Eve

BAY CITY, Mich. (WJRT) - A 32-year-old Bay City resident spent New Year’s Day in jail after an armed robbery on Thursday evening.

The clerk at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 1510 Kosciuszko Ave. in Bay City reported the robbery around 9:25 p.m. The clerk told investigators from the Bay City Department of Public Safety that the suspect was armed with a knife and stole cigarettes.

Nobody was injured and the suspect fled before police arrived.

An officer from the Hampton Township Department of Public Safety located the suspect several blocks away from the store minutes after the robbery was reported. Police say the suspect was carrying the stolen cigarettes when the officer approached.

Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect, who spent New Year’s in the Bay County Jail while awaiting formal charges for the incident.
