FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - Tuesday marked the 68th anniversary of the deadly Beecher tornado north of Flint.

One of the survivors recalled her frightening experience on that day in 1953. Leanora Gould was a teenager living at the old Flint Amusement Park, which her father owned at the time.

The devastation was overwhelming, as a killer tornado tore through Genesee County. The twister killed 116 people and injured more than 840.

“It was terrible. All you saw was houses and trees gone,” Gould said. “So many people talked about what happened to them, their home is gone, their family is gone.”
