MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) - Kroger is hosting a hiring event Thursday to fill 2,000 open jobs at its stores in Michigan.

Positions are available in nearly every part of store operations from online orders, pharmacy and stocking displays.

“Kroger is one of the largest employers in the country and our longstanding culture of opportunity has created an environment where many people -- whether it be a cashier, stocker, or pharmacy technician -- come for a job and stay for a career,” said Stephanie Spangler-Opdyke, Michigan Division human resources leader.

Kroger has invested over $800 million over the past three years in employee wage increases, raising the average pay to $15.50 an hour in the U.S. this year. The company is planning continued wage increases to push the national average pay over $16 an hour.

Kroger also offers all employees up to $21,000 per person for tuition reimbursement covering GED classes through doctoral degrees. More than 6,000 employees have received funding from the program, about 87% of whom were hourly workers.

Kroger employees also are eligible for discounts, flexible scheduling, advance paychecks, career advancement opportunities and a company paid wellness program. Workers who get a COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for a $100 bonus.

“We are truly driven to be the best employer in Michigan and one of the best places to work, no matter your skillset, role, or ambitions,” Spangler-Opdyke said.  “In today’s highly competitive labor market, we know talent is selective and attracted to companies that are leading with a clear purpose, growing and improving every day, and committed to offering a diverse, inclusive, and engaging culture where they can thrive and excel.”
