Macomb County man plans to help others with $4 million lottery prize
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - A 76-year-old from Macomb County loves to help people.
He said a $4 million prize from the Michigan Lottery’s $150 Million Cash Explosion instant game will allow him to help more.
The anonymous winner purchased his ticket at Manny’s Liquor on Main Street in Rochester. He claimed his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently.
“I usually only play the $5 and $10 games, but I’ve been winning quite a bit lately, so I decided to purchase a $30 ticket,” said the 76-year-old player. “I scratched the ticket right before bed and matched number 29. I thought maybe I’d won a few hundred dollars, but then scratched the $4 million amount underneath. I said: ‘Wait a minute. This can’t be.’'
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, so he went to sleep.
“When I woke up in the morning, I thought I’d dreamt it all,” the winner said. “But then I saw the ticket on my nightstand and knew it had actually happened.”
He decided to collect his winnings as a lump sum prize of $2.5 million rather than annuity payments for the full $4 million prize. The lucky winner is excited to help family and friends with his newfound fortune.
“I really enjoy helping people, so all I can think about is how many people I’ll be able help with this money. It is such a surreal feeling,” the player said.
Players have won more than $109 million playing $150 Million Cash Explosion since August 2020. More than $64 million in prizes remain, including one $4 million top prize.
