A few strong storms possible in parts of Mid-Michigan this evening
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and a few of these storms could be strong to possibly severe.
MID-MICHIGAN, Mich. (WJRT) - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and a few of these storms could be strong to possibly severe.
In a morning update, the Storm Prediction Center has added most of Mid-Michigan in a “marginal” risk for severe weather today. That is a 1 on a scale out of 5. It includes areas along and west of I-75. The best chance for storms will be after 3 p.m. to around sunset.
Widespread severe is not expected but some storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and small hail. It’s one of those days that you will want to make sure you are staying weather aware and keeping an eye out for storms if you are going to be outside. The ABC12 First Alert Weather app is a great way to do that. It has live radar, video updates, and push alerts to help you stay updated. It’s free for both iPhone and Android users.
It is important to note, though, that not everyone in Mid-Michigan will see storms today so outdoor plans don’t need to be canceled altogether but you will definitely want to make sure you are paying attention to the weather and head indoors if you hear thunder or see lightning.
Outside of the storm threat, today will be a muggy and warm day with highs in the 80s. Thanks to a northeast wind off of Lake Huron, shoreline communities will stay a little cooler.
Stay with ABC12 for updates on-air and online throughout the day.
