Doctor says preventative care should be a New Year's resolution

Dr. James D. Grant of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan says everyone should make a point of getting preventative health care in 2022.

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - Getting or staying healthy is a popular New Year's resolution for many adults.

But preventive care has been on the decline since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Health officials reminding everyone to plan and schedule necessary health screenings.

Dr. James D. Grant with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan said the pandemic's effect on health care is obvious. The National Cancer Institute showed an abrupt decrease in cancer screenings of between 60% and 80% for some procedures throughout the spring of 2020.

Grant encourages everyone to consider the following preventative screenings with their doctor:

  • Diabetes screening.
  • Colon cancer screening.
  • Immunizations.
  • Bone density test.
