JR Kirtek is the chief meteorologist for ABC12 News with more than a quarter century of experience.

JR Kirtek

The "Dean" of Mid-Michigan weather forecasters, J.R. is currently the longest serving meteorologist in Mid-Michigan. He earned his degree from the University of Michigan's College of Engineering in Ann Arbor. He graduated from the Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences in 1985. He was a member of the Wolverine's National Championship Weather Forecasting Team in 1984... J.R. grew up in Troy, Michigan, and is married to Kathleen Kirtek, M.D., who is from Saginaw, Michigan. Together, they raised five children, all of whom graduated from Flint Powers Catholic High School. When he isn't in the ABC12 First Alert Weather Center, he can usually be found playing golf.
