TUSCOLA COUNTY (WJRT) (2/14/2019) - Tuscola County will be home to a new $10 million soybean processing facility that will create eight jobs.

The facility being developed by Quality Roasting and the DeJong Co. will press soybeans to extract their oil and turn the remnants into cattle feed.

The Michigan Strategic Fund approved an $80,000 grant to lure the facility from competing locations in New York and Wisconsin. Gilford Township in Tuscola County has offered a 50 percent property tax abatement in support of the project.

Quality Roasting plans to process about 2.2 million bushels of soybeans, representing about 2 percent of Michigan's annual harvest.

Michigan ranks 15th in the nation for annual soybean output, accounting for $1.2 billion in economic activity and $158 million in exports, according to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
