IMLAY CITY (WJRT) (3/20/2018) - A 19-year-old man is in custody after police say he made threats at Imlay City High School.
Colin Owen allegedly went to the school in Lapeer County armed with a knife to confront his ex-girlfriend, according to the Imlay City Police Department.
He is accused of making statements that he wanted to harm her and that he would return with the knife to commit acts of violence.
School officials say an administrator recognized Owen as a former student and asked him to leave the campus. The school resource officer and other Imlay City police officers were notified of the incident.
Police say he ran away on foot when officers arrived at the school. That led officers to launch a manhunt through the city until he eventually was captured Monday evening.
Prosecutors hadn't announced charges against Owen on Monday. He also had a valid arrest warrant.
Imlay City Community Schools returned to normal classes on Tuesday and police planned beef up patrols around the buildings all day as a precaution.
The district is also investigating the credibility of the alleged threats
