MIDLAND (WJRT) (3/15/2019) - A Tuscola County man was convicted Friday of the murder of his great-aunt.

A jury found 34-year old Joel Wallace was guilty on all five criminal charges against him, including first-degree murder.

He killed 74-year old Victoria Kilbourne, who was reported missing on June 26, 2018. Her body was found four days later in a shallow grave on Wallace's hunting property near Onaway.

Kilbourne, a well-known hairdresser in Midland, had been loaning money to Wallace for a while, but a neighbor told police she had planned to cut off the loans because Wallace hadn't been paying her back, according to investigators.

The day she disappeared, police say Wallace wrote himself a $2,000 check from her account and forged his signature.

Wallace remains in jail and will be sentenced in May. A first-degree murder conviction in Michigan carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole.
