(5/14/2019) - Police say a 40-year-old man died minutes after sideswiping a garbage truck last week.

The crash happened Friday afternoon on Atherton Road near Term Street between Dort Highway and Center Road in Burton.

Investigators say Richard Hetzer Jr. was driving east when his minivan crossed the center line. The westbound Emterra garbage truck tried to swerve out of the way but the minivan collided with it.

Hetzer was pronounced dead at the scene. The garbage truck driver, who police did not identify, was not hurt.

Police say it's still not clear what caused Hetzer to cross the center line.
