DETROIT (AP) - (06-14-18) - Police say a construction worker was fatally struck by an SUV on Interstate 75 in downtown Detroit.

Michigan State Police say the crash happened when an SUV went into an active construction zone and hit two workers. One worker was killed and the other suffered minor injuries.

The construction worker was identified as 57-year-old David Snell from Bay City, according to WXYZ in Detroit. He leaves behind a wife and two adult children.

Michael Malloure, president of C.A. Hull Contractors, told WXYZ the company is devastated over Snell's death. He said Snell has worked in construction for over 30 years and everyone enjoyed being around him.

The highway's northbound lanes were closed early Thursday while police investigated the crash.

Police say the driver, who has not been identified, was taken into custody at the scene and was being investigated for possible drunken driving.
