South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announces presidential run

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- (1/23/2019) - The pool of Democratic presidential hopefuls is getting larger.

On Wednesday, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced he's forming an exploratory committee for a 2020 presidential bid.

Buttigieg was in Washington, D.C., attending the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

He joins a crowded field of Democrats seeking the nation's highest elected office:

Definitely running: Sen. Kamala Harris, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, former U.S. Rep. John Delaney and former West Virginia state Sen. Richard Ojeda.

Exploratory committees: Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
