ISABELLA COUNTY (WJRT) (10/25/19) - The Isabella County Sheriff's Office said one woman was killed in a crash between a car and a school bus.

It said it happened around 9:10 p.m. Thursday on Coldwater Road north of River Road in Broomfield Township.

Investigators said a car headed south went into the northbound lane and collided with a Chippewa Hills school bus. Deputies said the car caught on fire after the impact and flames spread to the bus.

The woman driving the car, who was alone in her vehicle, died on the scene. The medical examiner at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing was working to positively identify her on Friday.

The sheriff's office said about 15 members of the JV football team and coaches were on the bus at the time of the crash. They evacuated before the first emergency responders arrived.

Two students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The remainder of the students and coaches rode another bus to Coldwater and Remus roads, where they were reunited with their families.

The Isabella County Sheriff's Office is working with Chippewa Hills schools to make sure students and staff receive support.
