76-year-old killed in Tuesday's U.S. 23 pileup, wife remains in critical condition

MUNDY TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (10/11/2018) - A 76-year-old has been identified as the man killed in a pileup on U.S. 23 Tuesday and his wife remains in critical condition.

James Atkinson died after his car was rear-ended by a pickup truck that didn't slow quickly enough entering a construction slowdown at the Grand Blanc Road interchange in Mundy Township.

The crash involved seven vehicles in the northbound lanes of the freeway.

Atkinson died on the scene and his wife, Katherine, was critically injured. Three other people were injured and taken to area hospitals, where they were treated and released this week.

Five other people involved in the crash did not report any injuries.

The Metro Police Authority of Genesee County, which is investigating the crash, is asking anyone who witnessed it to call 810-820-2190.
