FLINT (WJRT) (7/10/2018) - Soon, shoppers will be filling up their grocery carts full of food from the Hamady Complete Food Center in Flint at the old Kroger on Clio and Pierson roads.
"It's always been my plan to bring the company back, and its back,” owner Jim McColgan said.
He has filled all of the open positions at the store. Now he and his over 100 employees have been working over these past few weeks to stock some shelves in the over 74,000-square-foot store.
"We have floral, we have produce, we have deli meat, bakery, we have dollar items and health and beauty,” McColgan said.
There's still work that needs to be done on adding frozen foods and Made in Michigan shelves.
"We are going to be around the clock getting the store finalized. The store is about 80 percent filled right now," McColgan said.
This store opening will mark over a quarter of a century since McColgan and his father ran this grocery chain.
"When people come in here, they are going to feel like how they felt when they last shopped Hamady," he said.
The store is even bringing back the classic Hamady grocery bags.
"What I am proud of is that my dad is still alive and still here to see it and that's the most important,” he said.
McColgan says the grand opening day for the public is scheduled on July 25.
