SAGINAW (WJRT) More than 300 students in Saginaw County will start the school year with new backpacks loaded with supplies.
AT&T Michigan Pioneers presented 350 backpacks filled with school supplies to administrators from the Saginaw Intermediate School District.
Organizers say the need has been growing over the past several years.
Teachers will now work to deliver the backpacks to students in need within the district.
"We have a lot of families that really look forward to to getting extra help at the start of the school year and I know, for example, we have several single moms that over the years they've actually gone without necessities so they can get all the school supplies for their children and we're able to provide this for them," said Sue Howard, a social worker with Carrollton Public Schools.
AT&T Pioneers plan to handout nearly 3,000 backpacks across Michigan this fall.
