(2/27/2019) - Aldi shoppers will soon have a new place to stock up on discounted groceries in Grand Blanc Township.

Aldi is planning to open a new store in the former MC Sports store in the plaza with Kohl's and PetSmart in the 6000 block of South Saginaw Street. That's just south of the Walmart and Sam's Club.

Grand Blanc Township Planning and Building Director Mark Lloyd said the building will be expanded slightly to accommodate the 20,000-square-foot Aldi. The former MC Sports currently is 13,000 square feet.

Aldi says a grand opening date hasn't been set, but the store is expected to open sometime in the fall of 2019. A date will be listed on the retailer's website when it gets set.

The new store is part of a billion-dollar nationwide initiative to expand Aldi's footprint and remodel existing stores. The Flint Township location on Corunna Road and Burton location on Center Road were remodeled in 2018.
