GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT)- (04/20/19)- 5. 8 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's.
By 2050, that number is expected to rise to nearly 14 million.
Saturday, a workshop was held at the Genesee County Harris Auditorium to better educate people about the disease, what signs to look for, the progression and what resources are out there, to help not only those diagnosed, but family members as well.
"Dementia or Alzheimer's, which is a type of Dementia, is the 6th leading cause of death in the US. dementia is something we should all know about because the signs and symptoms can be there long before its diagnosed," said Gail Johnson, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
This year, Alzheimer's and other Dementia's will cost the nation $290 Billion dollars.
By by 2050, those costs could rise to more than a trillion.
