Ballot initiatives to raise minimum wage may be passed with changes later

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - (09/01/18)-Michigan Republicans may stymie a pair of fall ballot initiatives to raise the minimum wage and require paid sick leave by adopting a new tactic: pass the laws themselves, then change them later.

The unprecedented business-backed strategy is being pushed within the GOP-led Legislature so it is easier to alter the proposals with simple majority votes.

Democrats accuse Republicans of planning to "gut" the initiatives later.
